My project started with a bunch of Ludwig drums and assorted cymbals I bought from a guy going the digital route. Beneath the grime and stickers were a partial club date kit, 14" and 16" WMP B/O toms, and a super sensitive snare. Most of the hardware was intact except for the bass drum spurs, and there were only two big holes in the shell. I fixed these with some patches of wood I steam bent and glued in place. I fitted after market fold-away legs. I sanded off all the remaining Duco finish and applied a light red stain and a clear coat. Since I never had the matching 14" floor tom, I sourced out a1 950s WFL 15x12 marcher and this became my floor tom. A wrap of birch veneer over the blue sparkle and it was an acceptable match for the 22 and 13. I had some Ludwig leg mounts and a baseball bat muffler to finish it off. The shell is made of mahogany (13 and 22 are maple) and has a wonderful, deep tone. After all that I fitted two 70s Premier hoops on the bass drum and my project was complete, and the world was a better place!
Thanks, Robert.
